Featured Artist -- Annie Leibovitz
Anne-Lou "Annie" Leibovitz was born October 2, 1949 in Waterbury Connecticut. She is an American women who is a portrait photographer. Leibovitz has three daughters, having her first child when she was 52 years old. In Leibovitz's younger life, she atteneded the San Fransisco Art Insititute, where she studied painting because she wanted to become an art teacher. While in schooling, she took photography which changed her outlook on what she wanted to do for the good. Leibovitz is best known for her engaging portraits involving intimate settings and poses between the subjects. Annie started her career by becoming a photographer for the magazine, The Rolling Stones. While having a job, Annie found it very important to take personal photographs for her family because her family is what is most important to her. Leibovitz took photographs of many famous peple, and always made her subject feel welcomed. After working for The Rolling Stone for 10 years, Annie became the tour photographer and became addicted to drugs for awhile. Annie Leibovitz was successful because she put in immense amounts of hard work to create interesting and creative portraits, sometimes entriguing the public. I chose Annie as my artist because she wasn't afraid to be different. She also put herself out there and made a name for herself by working with The Rolling Stones and taking portraits of highly famous people. I believe that Lebovitz has impacted society and the world of art because she brought a different form and style to photographs.
